Abdulsalam Sikiru Abidemi, PhD
Abdulsalam Sikiru Abidemi, PhD, is Director-General of the West African Monetary Institute (WAMI), with over two decades of experience in monetary policy, macroeconomic surveillance, regional monetary cooperation, financial sector integration, and payment systems development. He provides strategic and technical leadership on macroeconomic convergence, financial integration, digital financial infrastructure, and regional payment systems across the West African Monetary Zone, in support of the ECOWAS single-currency agenda.
Before joining WAMI, Dr Abidemi served as Director of Research and Statistics at the West African Monetary Agency (WAMA). He previously held academic positions at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, where he served as Lecturer and rose to Associate Professor of Economics. He was a Fulbright Visiting Research Scholar at the RAND Corporation in California, USA, and has published widely on monetary economics, macroeconomic policy, financial integration, and econometric policy modelling
