Ibrahim Baba Muhammed is a senior anti-financial crime and Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) professional with over 20 years of experience across regulatory, banking, and financial intelligence environments in Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates.

He currently serves as Chief Governance, Risk & Compliance Officer at the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), where he leads the development of the Unit’s governance and risk frameworks, supports risk-based supervision of reporting entities, and contributes to strategic initiatives on emerging technology risks, virtual assets, and financial crime prevention.

Mr. Muhammed has played an active role in advancing Nigeria’s AML/CFT/CPF supervisory architecture, including engagement with financial institutions, fintechs, and emerging virtual asset ecosystems. His work also supports SupTech development, data-driven supervision, and cross-agency coordination to strengthen financial integrity and mitigate illicit financial flows, .

Prior to his present role in the NFIU, he has held senior compliance and risk roles with Standard Chartered Bank, Citi, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB), and Seplat Energy Plc, where he led enterprise-wide financial crime compliance, sanctions, and governance programmes.

He is a Fellow of the International Compliance Association (FICA) and a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), and has participated in several international engagements on financial crime risk mitigation and supervisory cooperation.
