Visa

With the exception of citizens/nationals of member states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), delegates of other nationalities are required to possess a valid Nigerian visa in order to be admitted into Nigeria from any of its international ports.

Nigerian visas are issued through the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) desk at either the Nigerian Embassy or Consulate in your home country. The nation also has a Visa-on-Arrival scheme for interested travellers.

The standard processing time for a Nigerian visa is usually 5 – 10 business days. However, it can take longer if more paperwork is needed or if it’s during a busy travel time. You should apply for your visa well in advance of your trip to ensure you have enough time to obtain it before your departure.

You can apply for a Nigerian visa online at https://portal.immigration.gov.ng/

NIGERIAN VISA REQUIREMENTS

The requirements for a Nigerian visa vary for different nationalities, however, there are some common denominators irrespective of country or nationality. Below are some of the basic requirements necessary to obtain a Nigerian visa:

An international passport with unused pages and a validity of more than 6 months

Evidence of sufficient funds to cover the duration of your visit to/stay in Nigeria

Payment of Visa fee applicable to visitors from your country of residence

THE VISA-ON-ARRIVAL SCHEME

Nigeria also has a Visa-on-Arrival scheme for travellers who may be interested. The Visa-on-Arrival scheme allows you to travel from your country of residence to a pre-approved Nigerian port of entry, where a Nigerian visa would be affixed to your international passport and the Nigeria Immigration Service officials would stamp your passport and allow you to gain entry into the country.

The application process usually takes about 2 to 4 working days, however after the Visa-on-Arrival has been approved by the Nigeria Immigration Service, there is only a 14-day entry period into Nigeria. Hence, all international attendees need to ensure that their flight to Nigeria is scheduled within the 14-day entry period from the day of approval of the Visa-on-Arrival.

Please note that the NIS applies different charges to various nationalities for Visa-on-Arrival applications.
